December Kaleidoscope features works by Bates & Dennehy

The last Kaleidoscope event of 2010 takes place on Tuesday, December 7th at 9pm in The Odessa Club with another exciting and eclectic mix of music.

Soprano, Deirdre Moynihan and baroque violinist, Marja Gaynor join with some of the finest early music specialists in Dublin to present a selection of Scottish folksongs from Francesco Geminiani’s “A Treatise of Good Taste in the Art of Musick”. Having just finished a successful Irish tour, this is an opportunity to see why these musicians are such respected exponents of period performance.

Dublin flautist William Dowdall performs Donnacha Dennehy’s “fAt” – a solo, electro-acoustic piece for flute and tape commissioned by William in 2000.  He is then joined by viola player, Lisa Dowdall and cellist, Kate Ellis for Roussel’s beautiful “Trio for Flute, Viola and Cello”, described as “a delicious piece of marzipan…delightful and colourful.”

“Duo and Tape” by the award-winning, internationally acclaimed Irish composer Enda Bates was commissioned by Kaleidoscope to mark the first successful year of the music salon. It proved hugely popular at the One Year Party in October. Violinist, Clíodhna Ryan and cellist, Kate Ellis will once again perform this remarkable work.

To round off the evening Kaleidscope welcomes the Paul Frost Band. With arrangements of songs from Ray Charles, Joe Cocker and original music, this show-stopping group are sure to get that festive spirit going. Another memorable Kaleidoscope Night and a great start to the Christmas season.
