CMC to award a new Bursary to attend Composition Course in Croatia in July 2021

CMC will provide a bursary in the amount of €600 for tuition fees for one CMC-represented composer to attend the composition course being hosted by Prof. Joel Hoffman as part of UPBEAT International Summer Music School (http://www.upbeat.hr) on the island of Brac, Croatia from Monday, 26 July 2021 to Friday, 6 August, 2021. Travel, accommodation and all other expenses will be payable by the composer who is awarded this CMC Bursary.

CMC invites those composers it represents who are interested in being considered for this CMC Bursary to follow the application instructions for the course in the link below, and submit an application direct to Prof. Hoffman by the deadline of Monday, 15 March 2021 with the heading CMC Bursary. Following the deadline for applications, Prof. Hoffman will choose the composer to be offered the CMC Bursary. After the CMC Bursary is awarded and accepted, any composers who have been accepted onto this composition course, but not awarded the CMC Bursary, will be free to accept their places at their own expense, or can withdraw their applications. In the event that it does not prove possible to host this composition course this summer due to Covid–19 restrictions, the composer awarded this CMC Bursary will be entitled to use it for this composition course next year (2022).

This composition course is designed primarily for early career and mid-career composers, and is open to composer-performers and composers of all ages. Since the course structure involves students rehearsing and performing each others’ compositions composed specifically for this occasion, proficiency on one (or perhaps more than one) instrument/voice is necessary for most, if not all, participants. Accordingly, while it is not necessary to be a composer performer to apply, as the course aims to have as many as possible of the participants at an advanced level on their instrument/voice, Prof. Hoffman will be taking this into account along with the level of the applicants’ submitted compositions.
