Crash Ensemble to tour the US

During May, the Crash Ensemble will perform a three-day tour in the US, where they will perform works by founder Donnacha Dennehy, as well as a number of world premieres.

The tour begins with two concerts of the same programme in New York, the first at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on 14 May and Carnegie Hall on 17 May. Crash Ensemble will be joined by soprano Dawn Upshaw and sean-nós singer Iarla O'Lionaird for the performance of Donnacha Dennehy's settings of Yeats in Grá agus Bás and That the Night Come, both released to great acclaim on the Nonesuch label in 2011. Also on the programme for these concerts are two works by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov (Carnegie Hall's resident composer), Lúa Descolorida and How Slow the Wind, based on the poetry of Emily Dickinson and Rosalia de Castro.

A third concert in Princeton University is a concert of premieres, opening with the US premiere of Dan Trueman's Symphony of Ws for ensemble and Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, performed by the composer. Also on the programme are world premieres of four works by graduate composers of Princeton University, written especially for the ensemble.

The Crash Ensemble's US Tour is supported by Culture Ireland as part of Ireland's EU Residency Culture Programme 2013.
