Iomas: Íarla Ó'Lionáird performs 're-imagined' sean-nós

The concert, titled Iomas (intuition), takes place on 12 September at 8pm at the National Concert Hall and features the Sean-nós singer with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and conductor David Brophy performing a number of new works.

Seven composers from Ireland and the US have written new music that seeks to recontextualise and re-imagine Sean-nós songs for contemporary audience, giving Ó'Lionáird the opportunity to explore each composers' own character as well as that of Irish traditional music.  The Irish composers included on the programme are Donnacha Dennehy, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, Niall Vallely and Micheál Ó'Súilleabháin, while from the US there will be new music from Nico Muhly, David Lang and Dan Trueman (all composers who have had close connections with Ireland, and the Crash Ensemble in particular in the past).

Íarla Ó'Lionáird has become known through his fusion of traditional and contemporary music. A Sean-nós singer, he has become a regular on the contemporary music circuit, having performed on Donnacha Dennehy's Grá agus Bás, and regularly joining Crash Ensemble and bands like 3epkano in concert.

The concert takes place at 8pm on the 12 September at the National Concert Hall. For booking see the NCH website.
