Matthew Whiteside on his new debut album Dichroic Light

Scottish-based Northern Irish composer Matthew Whiteside talks about his latest project producing a new album of works.

Funded by Creative Scotland, the album is released on 4 May and features the premiere recording of his Solo for Viola D’amore and live electronics, collaborations with clarinettist Joanna Nicholson and performances by Scottish new music group Red Note.

The album takes it title from one of Whiteside's pieces for cello and electronics, described as "an enveloping soundscape of the calm drone-like quality of the cello and the players own voice".

Following the launch, viola player Emma Lloyd and the composer will perform two of the works from the album - Ulation and the Solo for Viola D’amore -  in concerts in Glasgow (6 May), Edinburgh (10 May), Dublin (20 May) as part of CMC's Salon Series, and Lisburn (21 May).
