Raymond Deane's 'Quadripartita' to be premiered at December Kaleidoscope Night
The December Kaleidoscope Night, titled Tales and Treasures, will feature the premiere of a new work by Raymond Deane. The programme, also featuring Berio and Berwalk, is curated by Malachy Robinson and will feature performances by Cassiopeia Winds and Caroline Moreau as well as artists-in-residence The Robinson Panoramic Quartet.
Quadripartita is a new work by Deane, specially commissioned for this event, marking the end of RPQ’s period of residence at Kaleidoscope. Raymond spoke to us about the work:
“Composed in Dublin and at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, between March and July 2014, Quadripartita was commissioned by Malachy Robinson with funds from The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. The gulf between the depths of the double-bass and the heights of the violin, and the dialectic between the individualisation of the 4 instruments and their aspiration to homogeneity provided the main challenges in writing for this combination. The work is partly based on a chorale that only throws off its disguise towards the end, and partly on a more melodic element that is unrelated to it. These materials engage in a play of attraction and repulsion that remains unresolved. Quadripartita is dedicated to Malachy Robinson and the Panoramic Quartet.”
Tales and Treasures takes place on Wednesday 3 December. For more see www.kaleidoscopenight.com
