Peter Rosser (1970-2014)

The Contemporary Music Centre regrets the passing of composer, writer and lecturer Peter Rosser, who died following an illness in Belfast on 24 November 2014.

Peter Rosser was born in London and moved to Belfast in 1990. He studied composition with David Morris at the University of Ulster and was awarded a DPhil in 1997.

His music was performed at the Spitalfields Festival in London, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Belfast Festival at Queen’s, Between the Lines Literary Festival, and the Dartington International Summer School.

In 2012, his Second Second String Quartet, funded by an Arts Council of Northern Ireland Major Individual Artist Award, was premiered by the JACK Quartet as part of the opening concert at Belfast's new Metropolitan Arts Centre (MAC).

Peter Rosser was also very active as a writer on music, and contributed to The Wire, The Journal of Music, and Perspectives of New Music.

The Board and staff of the Contemporary Music Centre would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his partner, Anne, and family Teresa, Paul and Tony Rosser, and his many friends and colleagues who knew him in the music community in Belfast and beyond.
