The next Spatial Music Collective concert takes place on 5 August 2010

Spatial Music Collective

Following successful concerts with New Dublin Voices and the Bridgewood Ensemble, the Spatial Music Collective present a night of live spatial music with the Dublin Guitar Quartet at Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin on 5 August 2010.

The Dublin Guitar Quartet was formed in 2002 with the sole aim of performing contemporary music. Since then they have developed numerous original arrangements of existing works and commissioned many new works of contemporary music for both classical and electric guitars. The quartet have worked directly with composers such as Kevin Volans, Donnacha Dennehy, Sofia Gubaidulina, Philip Glass and many of Ireland's established and emerging composers.

The quartet will be performing with electric guitars and four guitar amplifiers positioned in the four corners of the theatre, while the electronic parts will be performed using an additional eight-channel surround sound speaker array. The concert will include the premiere of new works for electric guitar quartet and 8-channel electronics by Brian Bridges, Linda Buckley, Simon Cullen, Michael Fleming and Jonathan Nangle. In addition, Enda Bates will be performing a new work for hexaphonic guitar and electronics and Pat Brunnock from the quartet will be performing Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint.
