CMC presents The Contemporary Music Centre Outdoor Music Trail as part of music in the Historic Quarter during August
Music in the Historic Quarter consists of The Contemporary Music Centre Outdoor Music Trail and event programme run by partners in the project. It takes place throughout Dublin’s Historic Quarter from 21 August to 1 September 2010.
This innovative project consists of a music trail containing recordings of works by a number of Irish composers playing in five outdoor locations. An inner trail made up of three locations will play music outdoors daily from 1pm to 4pm, and an extended trail, which uses the very latest in location-based, augmented reality technology, will allow users to listen to selected recordings using a special application and compatible smartphone such as an iPhone or Android phone.
‘Music in the Historic Quarter has come about as a result of the rich music tradition in the area in which we are located, which continues right up to the present day. The Historic Quarter is home to many music organisations and venues and we are delighted to be working with many of these as partners in our new initiative,’ says Karen Hennessy, Promotion Manager, The Contemporary Music Centre.
The music trail will be launched on Friday, 20 August 2010 by the new Director of the Contemporary Music Centre, Evonne Ferguson. This will be her first official engagement after taking up the position in August 2010. An extensive event programme follows from 21 August to 1 September involving St Audoen’s Church, The Amphitheatre at Dublin City Council, Christ Church Cathedral, St Patrick’s Cathedral, The Back Loft, City Hall, The Coach House and the Smock Alley Theatre.
Music in the Historic Quarter is made possible through the funding support of Dublin City Council and the Summer in Dublin programme - www.dublincity.ie - as well as the ongoing funding support of the Contemporary Music Centre by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
