Mornington Singers win CMC award for new Irish music performance at Derry Choral Festival

Susan Brodigan, CMC, presenting the award to Dr Orla Flanagan of the Mornington Singers at the Derry International Choral Festival

The City of Derry International Choral Festival took place on the 19-23 October 2016. As part of the festival, the Contemporary Music Centre presents an annual award for the best performance of a piece by an Irish composer. The purpose of this award is to encourage choirs of all standards and abilities to perform the large volume of choral repertoire composed by CMC registered composers.

This year's prize was awarded to The Mornington Singers, who performed Rhona Clarke's Regina Coeli. The choir also took third place overall in the International Competition category. A commemorative engraved plate, cash prize plus vouchers to redeem on choral works from the Contemporary Music Centre were presented to the choir at the closing Gala Concert on 23 October by CMC's Library Co-ordinator Susan Brodigan. CMC extends its warmest congratulations to The Mornington Singers and to the organising committee of this year's festival.
