'The Room in the Tower' by Roger Doyle will be performed as part of the Absolut Dublin Fringe Festival

Roger Doyle

A soundtrack for an imaginary film, The Room In The Tower reveals a horror story based on a recurring nightmare. In the dimly lit room of a haunted house in the early 20th century, a story unfolds through recorded dialogue, electronic sounds and the ethereal live vocals of Vyvienne Long and Doyle on piano.

Scripted by Carlo Gebler, a tale unfolds that will linger long after you've witnessed it. The work is part of his ‘cinema for the ear’ series of works. The first work in the series, Adolf Gebler, clarinettist, for symphony orchestra and pre-recorded acted scenes was commissioned by RTÉ.

This latest composition by the "Godfather of electronic music" will take place during this year’s ABSOLUT Fringe in the Kevin Barry Room in National Concert Hall from 13-18 September.

Roger Doyle has worked extensively in theatre, film and dance, in particular with the music-theatre company Operating Theatre, which he co-founded with actress Olwen Fouéré. Babel, his magnum opus, was begun in 1990 and had its first public showing in an entire wing of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1992 as a dance piece.

Tickets: €15, €12 concession, €11 preview (Sept. 13) are now available from ABSOLUT Fringe Box Office or the National Concert Hall. The price includes access to an exclusive music download of The Room in the Tower by Roger Doyle.
