US new music broadcaster John Schaefer will be present for an event at The Guesthouse, Cork on 8 March
The broadcaster, who is visiting Ireland for a series of events on the invitation of CMC, will participate in an informal social gathering combining food and sound at the unique venue in Shandon from 5pm, with performances from 6pm onwards.
An evening with John Schaefer will bring artists together and share food designed in sympathy with the evenings sonic performances to welcome renowned US radio station WNYC broadcaster of NewSounds and SoundCheck on his first visit to Cork.
The event operates on a gift economy where the audience is asked to bring something for the larder. For the evening, The Quiet Club, John Godfrey and Karen Power will team up to form a unique improvising quartet, which combines the renowned ‘found and home-made instruments’ of Quiet Club, the shimmering sonic textures of digital guitarist, improvisor and composer John Godfrey (Crash Ensemble, QME) and the recorded soundscapes of Ireland and abroad, manipulated and transformed live by composer Karen Power.
Audiences will be encouraged to meander through a diverse range of sounds as they walk around the performers, investigating the sources of these sounds and how they are combined live to unveil this quartets unique and immersive soundscape.
CMC would like to thank the Embassy of the United States in Dublin, Ireland, Belfast City Council, and the Guesthouse Cork for their support of John Schaefer's visit.
