Anne-Marie O'Farrell announced as finalist in BBC CO remix competition

ImageDublin-born Anne-Marie O'Farrell, who is currently undertaking a doctorate in composition at Queen's University, Belfast, has been announced as one of two finalists in a recent competition for postgraduate composers studying in the UK.

The competition was run by the BBC Concert Orchestra (BBC CO) in October 2012, to remix Purcell's Rondeau from the Abdelazer Suite, as part of Radio 3's Baroque Spring. A panel comprised of composers and members of the BCC CO artistic administration team selected five pieces which were works hoped by the Orchestra and conductor Charles Hazlewood. Two of these, Anne-Marie's Rann Dó Trí and Marisa Hartanto's Rumble to the Past were selected as finalists.

The two works will be performed live on BBC Radio 3 on Monday 11 March in a programme that includes a number of 'reworked' Baroque pieces, including new settings of music by Bach, Rameau and Couperin.
