RTÉ lyric fm announces Composer in Residence Scheme for 2011-2012.

RTÉ lyric fm invites applications from composers to participate in the second composer in residence scheme, to run on a fixed term basis from September 2011 – August 2012 in association with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. This term may be extended by one year into 2013 subject to the agreement of both parties. The station is looking for an accomplished creator who has a proven interest in orchestral and ensemble and/ or new media composing and a clear knowledge of RTE lyric fm’s audience. The composer in residence is expected to create new work during their tenure and contribute to RTE lyric fm's education and outreach scheme.

With regard to new compositions, four new pieces are expected for a variety of instrumental forces including the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. The composer in residence will mentor two young Irish composers in the creation of a 5 minute new work each for the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and deliver at least two workshops on music composition in secondary schools selected by RTÉ lyric fm. S/he will also engage in various types and quantities of broadcast and new media outputs  related to their overall creative and education work in the position.

A stipend of €18,000 will be awarded to the selected candidate along with specified expenses. You will also get free access to all RTÉ NSO concerts and rehearsals throughout the year.

2.     A CD recording of or scores for 4 x compositions, two of which must have been written within the past three years. At least one recording is required.
