"Stranger Folk" Crash Ensemble on national tour in December
Crash Ensemble brings you ‘Stranger Folk’, a vibrant programme of folkinspired new music to delight, beguile and intrigue the nation! Ireland’s pioneering new music collective is packing its bags and leaving the capital for a whirlwind tour of Ireland, which includes performances in Galway, Cork, Mayo, Dún Laoghaire, Kerry and Kildare.
There will be music from the Americas by Argentina’s Osvaldo Golijov and from the inimitable talent of New York’s John Zorn, sean nós inspired strains from Dublin’s Donnacha Dennehy and a unique piece by Dutch cult composer Jacob Ter Veldhuis (aka Jacob TV), arranged for Crash Ensemble. This is also a unique opportunity to hear Arts Council commissioned work by Irish composers: John Godfrey’s ‘The Abstract Depotism of Calculus’(2008), and Gerald Barry’s ‘First Sorrow’(2007), which were especially commissioned for Crash Ensemble , as well as Donnacha Dennehy’s ‘As an Nós’(2009) commissioned by the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players with funds from the Arts Council.
This new programme of Crash favourites and commissions is a great introduction to Ireland’s foremost new music ensemble and a refreshing mix for long time fans. You won’t be disappointed!
