The Irish Chamber Orchestra tour works by Dave Flynn in September
This September the Irish Chamber Orchestra will tour to five locations with a programme featuring Dave Flynn's Music for the Departed.
The ICO will be joined by Martin Hayes, one of the most extraordinary talents to emerge in the world of Irish traditional music and Dennis Cahill, a master guitarist who’s spare, essential accompaniment to Martin Hayes’ fiddle is acknowledged as a major breakthrough for guitar in the Irish tradition. Hayes and Cahill have premiered many important works written for them by the composer and their performances with the ICO will be special opportunity for audiences around the country to hear Flynn’s unique works that merge the classical and the traditional.
The programme also includes a new piece, An Irish Farrago (From O'Carolan to Ó Ríada), an orchestration by Flynn of a suite of traditional Irish music as arranged by Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill. The suite, the orchestration of which was commissioned by the Irish Chamber Orchestra with funding from the Arts Council of Ireland's Traditional Arts Commission Scheme, includes old traditional Irish tunes alongside a recent reel composition by Peadar Ó Ríada.
