Wicklow in Song with the music of Ina Boyle

A charity event in Wicklow celebrates three centuries of the county's music at Kilruddery House in Bray. Part of the Gathering, the concert features soprano Regina Nathan and harpist Anne-Marie O'Farrell.

The concert traces the Avonberg River, with a selection of music from Moore's Irish Melodies including Vale of Avoca, Meeting of the Waters, and on to two traditional Irish songs, Avondale and Blackbird of Avondale, that honour parliamentarian Charles Stewart Parnell, native to the title town. The Miners of Wicklow and other traditional tunes reflect the strong mining tradition of Wicklow. Also on the programme will be songs written by Enniskerry-born composer Ina Boyle, much of whose work remains unperformed, despite being a very prolific writer.

Wicklow in Song takes place on 23 August at Kilruddery House in Bray. Tickets cost €30, with the surplus proceeds going to The Wicklow Hospice and Bray Cancer Support. For more see www.wicklowinsong.com.
