Irish premiere of Breathing Spaces by JANE O’LEARY

New York-based pianist ISABELLE O'CONNELL returns to her native Dublin for a recital of new music at the

Kevin Barry Room, National Concert Hall, Dublin on

MONDAY, MARCH 28TH 2011 at 8.30PM.

The recital features the Irish premiere of a new work for solo piano by Jane O'Leary, Breathing Spaces.  Inspired by the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the writings of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the piece contemplates the use of 'space' in music and plays with the layering of sound created through the use of the sostenuto pedal. Breathing Spaces was premiered in January 2011 at Modfest, Vassar College, New York by Isabelle O'Connell. In five linked movements, the piece was commissioned by Isabelle with funding from the Arts Council Commission Awards.

Described by the New Yorker as 'the young Irish piano phenom',  Isabelle will also include works by John Luther Adams, Bunita Marcus, Gerard Beljon and Jacob ter Veldhuis in her international programme.
