CMC launches a new promotional CD on 5 March
The second release in CMC’s series new music::new Ireland will be launched at 6.00pm on 5 March at CMC by John Schaefer, presenter of WNYC’s New Sounds and SoundCheck.
The launch will feature a live performance by violinist Darragh Morgan of one of the works included on the album, where distant city lights flicker on half-frozen ponds (2011) by Jonathan Nangle.
Launched in 2013, the new music::new Ireland series aims to showcase some of the current work of Irish composers, providing a snapshot of the range and diversity of new music in Ireland today.
The series is funded by Culture Ireland, the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and presents 11 works selected by an artistic panel from over 50 submissions in a smart design and layout.
Featured composers include David Bremner, Irene Buckley, Neil Burns, Raymond Deane, Benjamin Dwyer, Ronan Guilfoyle, Fergus Johnston, Gráinne Mulvey, Jonathan Nangle, Jane O’Leary, and Sam Perkin.
Performers on the album include, among others, Concorde, the Fidelio Trio, violinist Darragh Morgan, pianists Hugh Tinney and Therese Fahy, and the Vanbrugh Quartet.
Following the launch, the album will be distributed nationally and internationally to radio stations, festivals, concert promoters, performers and universities amongst other places.
The album will also be available from 5 March on CMC’s Bandcamp page.
