CMC collaborates with NCAD in presenting a symposium on music and film
The event, entitled Art, Music and the Sonic, takes place on 5 November 2013 at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and brings together visual artists, composers and musicians to explore the interface of film and composition.
Introduced and moderated by CMC’s Director Evonne Ferguson, the symposium will include a number of short screenings of recent work in sound and image together with presentations focusing on models of good practice in collaboration between musicians and image makers.
Contributors include:
- Trish McAdam, film maker and contributor to the Fractal Music- Synthesis audiovisual project, whose short film Rough Time will be screened and who will also discuss her collaboration with the composer Trevor Knight and dancer Goyhie Zaitsu.
- Paul Moore, Professor of Video Art at Magee College, Derry, and composer and Head of School of Music at University of Ulster Frank Lyons, who will discuss their collaboration on the recent multimedia piece The River Sings.
- Desmond Bell, film maker and Professor at NCAD, who will talk about working with contemporary Irish music in creative documentaries and will introduce an extract from his film The Last Storyteller, which uses music by composer Deirdre McKay.
The event takes place as part part of the NCAD’s series, Interdisciplinary adventures for the visual arts, a series of lectures, symposia and screenings to explore the interface of visual art and a range of contemporary disciplines.
