CONCORDE & GARTH KNOX: ‘THE VIOLA: A WILD BEAST UNLEASHED’
On Sunday 26 June, in the Sundays at noon series, Concorde unveil five new compositions by Irish composers which have been inspired by violist Garth Knox and commissioned with the aid of an Arts Council Project Grant. Written over the past nine months through a series of workshops with all composers and performers, the new works feature guest artist, violist Garth Knox. Programme includes works by Concorde director, Jane O’Leary, Judith Ring, Ed Bennett and Brian Keegan. Garth Knox's new piece ‘Wild Animals’ also on the programme, reveals the viola unleashed and will offer the audience the chance to hear his performance skills with his emerging gift for composition.
Garth says, ‘the viola is usually typecast as a gentle, mellow instrument, good for playing slow sad songs and middle parts. But inside every gentle mellow person lurks an uncontrollable wild beast, just waiting to be unchained.’
Hear these exciting new works at 12 noon in DUBLIN CITY GALLERY: THE HUGH LANE PARNELL SQUARE, DUBLIN, 26 June as part of the SUNDAYS at NOON SERIES, and is free of charge.
