Ed Bennett's new work for pianist Xenia Pestova features at this year's Sonorities Festival in Belfast
The Sonorities Festival runs from 22–26 April in Belfast and includes 19 events featuring music from artists in more than 20 countries.
On 23 April at the MAC Belfast, the festival in collaboration with Moving On Music will present Bangor-born composer Ed Bennett’s new work for piano, multiple keyboards and electronics. Featuring concert pianist and new music specialist Xenia Pestova with the composer on electronics, the work draws on Irish folk music and is the result of a commission by INTER/actions Festival for Interactive Electronic Music/ Frontiers+ Festival/Cork Orchestral Society. The commission was made possible with funding through Beyond Borders from the PRS for Music Foundation, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Ireland, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Arts Council of Wales. Also on the programme in saxophonist John Butcher’s work The Geometry of Sentiment
The five day long running annual new music festival includes a number of other performances of Irish composers’ work, including among others electronic pieces by Donal Sarsfield (22 April) and Thomas McConville (24 April). A one day symposium, entitled Fractured Narratives - Improvised sound and stories, also takes place as part of the festival on 25 April.
