All music students are invited to the Seminar on New Choral Music in Cork on 1 May.

Want to learn more about choral music? Come along to this lively discussion of new music in the company of some of the best national and international talent over the Cork International Choral Festival weekend at From Composition to Performance: the 42nd Seminar on New Choral Music.

The Seminar puts new choral music to the fore and offers the opportunity to learn and exchange experience and ideas about performing new work with Ireland’s foremost professional choir, the National Chamber Choir, and Conductor and Artistic Director Paul Hillier.

The examination and exploration of two new commissioned pieces, by English composer Roxanna Panufnik and the winning composer of the Seán O’Riada trophy competition, Simon MacHale, will be central to the day, with the composers themselves in attendance together with the NCC, Paul Hillier and Seminar Chairperson Rhona Clarke.

Both new compositions will receive their world premieres in performance by The National Chamber Choir of Ireland in their festival concert: To Music on Friday 30th April 2010 7.30pm, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork.

Come along and hear the world premieres of these two pieces on the Friday, and then join us for the Saturday 10.30am  - 1.00pm session. It’s a great opportunity for those who attend the Gala Concert to add to their appreciation of the music they have seen the night before.

Hear and learn more about the challenges and rewards which new work presents along every stage of the journey which brings music from composition to performance.

Stack Theatre, CIT Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork, Saturday 1 May 2010, 10.30am. Seminar entry is free of charge and all are welcome. Student discount for Friday concert applies.
