Artist in the Community scheme - Explained.

The Contemporary Music Centre presented a practical development day on Music and the Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme managed by Create, on Tuesday 15 February 2011.

Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts provides a broad range of services for artists and arts organisations that support and develop collaborative arts as a specific field of contemporary arts practice. These services include Professional Development, Learning Development and Projects and Initiatives.

This day, a partnership between the Contemporary Music Centre and Create, The National Development Agency for Collaborative Arts, was well attended by composers, musicians, and all those interested in finding out more about music and the Artist in the Community scheme.

Speakers on the day included composer George Higgs, a previous recipients of the scheme as well as Katherine Atkinson, Project Support and Professional Development at Create.

George Higgs entertaining presentation detailed his project with students from the St. Mary’s school for deaf girls in Cabra in Dublin.

Katherine Atkinson's informative and practical guide to making applications to the scheme was welcomed by all those attending. CMC recorded Katherine’s advice on the application procedures and assessment criteria, an a further assistance to composers who hope to apply to this scheme in the next round (deadline Monday March 14th 2011).
