Music commission is announced for the Voicings conference in June

Expressions of interest are invited from Irish Composers to design a ‘music happening’ to be performed by participants at the Voicing Conference on Thursday June 2nd 2011. It is envisaged that the ‘music happening ‘ will be in the tradition of Cardew’s the Great Learning or Reily’s in C and will be performed by those attending the conference following a short workshop. The performance should be around 10 minutes in length and performable by a group with a mixed musical experience and expertise. A small group of conference participants will have orchestral instruments.
The conference is organised by IrishMusicEducation a new resource for music education in Ireland. Information about this resource can be found on its website. www.IrishMusicEducation.ie The intention of the conference is to bring music education practice and music education research together in the one space for an expo style conference.
The fee for the commission, to include leading the workshop and performance on the day is €1,000. This fee includes all expenses of the composer incurred in the course of the commission.
