CMC invites proposals for its Culture Night event

The Contemporary Music Centre is looking for proposals from Irish composers and musicians for work to be presented during this year's Culture Night on 24 September 2010.

Culture Night is an important event in the Centre’s calendar. It enables the Centre to bring new developments in contemporary music to diverse audiences and gives audiences the opportunity to experience exciting new work, while also providing the unrivaled opportunity for composers and musicians to engage directly with a wide section of the public.

Proposals can be for live performance and/or interactive or non interactive installations and can be for any public space within the CMC building, including the courtyard at the back and the “Off the Rails” sound gallery at the front railings. The work does not need to be created specifically for CMC or for Culture Night (i.e. existing work can be used) but the presentation on Culture Night must be specific to the event.

Requirements for proposals

  • Open to Irish composers or composers resident in Ireland.
  • The proposed event must be possible to have ready for Thursday, 23 September 2010.
  • The composer/performer must be available on Culture Night for any set up required on that day and throughout the day until 11pm.
  • The composer/performer chosen is responsible for all aspects of the proposed project including managing any additional personnel and subsequent costs required to produce the final work.
  • The composer/performer must be agreeable to participate in any media related interviews and coverage, as part of the awarded fee.
  • The composer/performer chosen must be agreeable to audio and video coverage of the event by CMC for the Centre’s web site and related social networking platforms.

Budget The budget allocation will be between €500-€1,000. The selection panel will determine if the maximum budget allocation is required based on the nature of the proposal.

Process

  • All proposals must be submitted by Monday, 9 August 2010.
  • Proposals must consist of one A4 page outlining the proposal and all personnel involved.
  • A CV/track record for the composer/performer and any other key individuals involved in producing the event.
  • Two to three relevant music or audio-visual samples as appropriate.
  • A selection panel will meet on the week of 9 August and the chosen proposal will be notified shortly after this date.

  • The composer/performer selected must be available during this week to liaise on producing these materials.
