Walled City Music Festival launches with a 3-date tour
The Walled City Music Festival launches this month with concerts in Derry, Belfast and Dublin. Taking place in Derry from 27 July to 4 August, the annual festival aims to bring world class musicians to new audiences, creating an open platform for music and discourse.
This year’s festival showcases a mix of classic works and new, with both Irish and international musicians. Composer-in-Residence will be Linda Buckley, while Sabrina Hu and Matthew Slotkin will be performing a programme of contemporary Irish works for flute and guitar, and Matthew Schellhorn will perform contemporary Irish works for solo piano.
The launch concerts take the form of a 3-concert national tour of ‘special celebrity recitals’, featuring Jan Vogler on cello and Cathal Breslin on piano with a programme of Debussy, Bach and Shostakovich. The tour will visit the University of Ulster’s Great Hall on Friday, 22 June, the School of Music of Queen’s University of Belfast on Saturday, 23 June, and Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery on the afternoon of Sunday 24 June.
