CMC New Music Digest: 18 June - 1 July

CMC's fortnightly post featuring updates on upcoming new music events and anything new and interesting in the world of new Irish music.

Events this fortnight

The annual love:live Music Day takes place on the 21 June, with a host of events taking place around the country in celebration of live music of all kinds, from traditional music to jazz. The day will also feature a number of contemporary music events, including CMC’s first Live at Your Place event featuring the Crash Ensemble.

Jennifer Walshe’s new opera, die Taktik, is performed in Germany. The work was commissioned by Stuutgart Oper, and is performed by Stuttgart Junge Oper and directed by the composer.

Raymond Deane’s Mystery of a Street will form the centre of an afternoon performance by the Concorde Ensemble at the National Gallery of Photography as part of the ensemble’s Up Close with Music series. The programme also features works by Frank Lyons, Deirdre McKay, James Wilson and Jane O’Leary.

The Irish Youth Choir’s 30th anniversary tour, Soundworlds, features a new commissioned work by Jonathan Nangle.

The Irish Composers’ Collective’s June concert will feature Alex Petcu. The concert will include new works by Ben McHugh, Marc Balbirne, Conal Ryan, David O’Regan, Emma O’Halloran, Francis Heery and Dylan Rynhart.

Philip Lawson, guitarist, gives his first solo Dublin concert and includes works by Dave Flynn.

The West Cork Chamber Music Festival takes place this month, and includes a number of concerts which feature works by Irish composers.
