CMC Library Update

This update from the library features some of the works added to its collection during a two month period. In July and August, works from 24 different composers were added to the CMC online library catalogue. Selected works include:

Raymond Deane (1953-) Communication Chord
Premiered by Kirkos on 12 June 2015 at Blackout: Devouring Reich, Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin.
The text is from Theses on the Philosophy of History by Walter Benjamin (1892-1940). “Marx says revolutions are the locomotives of history. But perhaps things are quite different. Perhaps revolutions are the way humanity, travelling on that train, reaches for the emergency brake.”

Sean Doherty (1987-) Hive Mind
Written for the Kensington Symphony Orchestra as part of ‘Adopt a Composer’ programme 2014, run by Making Music in partnership with Sound and Music, in association with BBC Radio 3, and funded by PRS For Music Foundation.
Premiered by Kensington Symphony Orchestra on 19 May 2015 at Milton Court, The Barbican, London, England.
I am fascinated by the centuries-long tradition of using the orchestra as a metaphor,—for heavenly choirs, civil society, the army, the human body, nature, machines—so I wanted the input of the Kensington Symphony Orchestra to update the metaphor of the orchestra for the twenty-first century...

Eoin Mulvany (1978-) Bog Bodies
Commissioned by Concorde.
Premiered by Concorde on 26 April 2015 at Concorde: Up Close with Music', RHA Gallery, Dublin.
...it is inspired by the cultural and spiritual significance of burial in the bog in ancient Irish society. The bog was the boundary between the temporal world and the spirit world and represented the boundary of Kingdoms.

Kevin O’Connell (1958-) Mass
Commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
Premiered by the Palestrina Choir, conductor Blanaid Murphy on 21 June 2015 at the Pro Cathedral, Dublin.

Matthew Whiteside (1988-) Solo for Viola D’amore and Electronics
Premiered by Emma Lloyd (va d’amore) and Matthew Whiteside (electronics) on 6 May 2015 at the Recital Room, Glasgow City Halls, Scotland.
