CMC will host the book launch of Benjamin Dwyer’s Different Voices: Irish Music and Music in Ireland on 6 November
Different Voices: Irish Music and Music in Ireland is a collection of twelve interviews with Irish and Ireland-based composers ranging in age from 26 to 80 carried out by composer and musicologist Benjamin Dwyer.
Published by the German music book publisher Wolke Verlag, the book includes an overview from Dwyer of music in Ireland from 1700 to the present and explores the compositional and stylistic eclecticism of Irish music. The interviews raise themes central to the study of Irish music including the relationship between European and ethnic music traditions, music styles and practices, the notion of “Irish” identity, music’s role in society, and the reception of contemporary music in current Irish and international media.
CMC, in association with the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Irish Music Rights Organisation, will host the launch at its premises at 19 Fishamble Street, Temple Bar, on 6 November from 6.30pm. The book will be launched by DIT music lecturer and leading Irish musicologist Dr Mark Fitzgerald, and the event will feature a performance by guitarist Pavlos Kanellakis of works by some of the featured composers in the book.
Following the launch, a concert presented by the Royal Irish Academy of Music takes place at Smock Alley Theatre. Further details for this are available from here.

CMC has produced a special web site for the book - differentvoices.ie - which provides additional information and links to further materials from CMC's catalogue and collection along with videos and related reading on the featured composers.
