Up Close with Music - Concorde at the Gallery of Photography
The premiere of a new work by Raymond Deane forms the centerpiece of a stimulating afternoon of music as the musicians of Concorde bring the fifth event in their Up Close with Music series to Dublin’s Gallery of Photography on Sunday, 1 July.
Deane’s Mystery of a Street has been commissioned by the ensemble for this event, which continues Concorde’s 35th anniversary celebrations. It also acknowledges Deane’s longstanding connection with the group, for which he wrote the works …Una Musica Riposa and Seachanges (with Danse Macabre).
The programme also features a number of other contemporary works, written for differing combinations of clarinet, violin, cello and accordion – among them, pieces by Frank Lyons, Deirdre McKay, James Wilson, Concorde’s founder-director Jane O’Leary and young composer Marc Tweedie, who is currently studying at Queen’s University, Belfast. Works by Wolfgang Rihm, Erkki Jokinen and the Chicago-based Matthew Dotson bring an international flavour.
The music will be presented in three short concerts which will take place on the hour between 2pm and 5pm, each lasting for thirty minutes.
Listen to a short interview with Raymond Deane about his work, Mystery of a Street, recorded on 14 June 2012.
