Irish Composers' Collective present flautist William Dowdall
The Irish Composers' Collective continue their 2013 Solo Series with a concert of new solo flute works, performed by Bill Dowdall on Friday 19 April at 8.30pm.
William Dowdall, born in Dublin and trained in Ohio, was principal flute of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra for fifteen years, and is now the professor of flute at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. He has released recordings on Goasco, Naxos, Celestial Harmonies and others, including a recent CD of new flute works by composers from Ireland and New Zealand between 1980 and 2010 called Breathe. He has an ongoing interest in contemporary music, and has hosted a workshop on contemporary solo flute music in Europe, the US, New Zealand and Australia.
The programme features seven new pieces by member composers of the Irish Composers' Collective, including a 30-second miniature by Peter Moran, a duet with piano by Sebastian Adams (performed by David Adams), and a work 'inspired by… liquids as metaphors of human existence' by Massimo Davi.
