Ian Wilson premieres during February

Ian Wilson

February is proving to be a busy month for Ian Wilson, with three premieres of his works taking place in the UK and Belfast.

An experimental music theatre piece, I Burn for You, inspired by Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula was premiered at Aldeburgh, UK on 11 February 2012. Based on a libretto by Wilson, the work is directed by Irish director Tom Creed and features Hungarian black metal singer Attila Csihar, virtuosic vocal improvisers Phil Minton and Elaine Mitchener, and acclaimed musicians including saxophonist Cathal Roche, accordionist Clive Bell and electro-acoustic improviser David Toop.

On 17 February 2012, the Ulster Orchestra performs Ian Wilson’s largest orchestral work to date. The stars, the seas is a commission from the Ulster Orchestra and commemorates the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic. The 25-minute work for choir and orchestra will be conducted by Paul Watkins in the Ulster Hall and will feature the Belfast choir Cappella Caeceliana. Wilson is currently the Ulster Orchestra’s associate composer.

The UK contemporary music group CHROMA premieres a recent trio for viola, bass clarinet and accordion on 20 February 2012 at King’s Place, London. The work - Četiri kamena (‘Four stones’ in Serbian) - was specially written for the ensemble and will be performed as part of a programme celebrating CHROMA’s 15th anniversary.
