Ensemble Resonabilis perform works by Irish and Estonian composers at the Irish Writers Centre on 16 February 2012
The Estonian ensemble performs works by Jane O’Leary and John Buckley as part of an evening of Estonian and Irish contemporary music and poetry.
Ensemble Resonabilis (resonabilis, Latin for ringing, sounding) is one of the most active contemporary music ensembles in Estonia. It consists of a unique combination of instruments - voice, flute, cello and kannel. The kannel is a traditional Estonian plucked instrument with a very distinctive sound and an extremely wide range of playing capabilities. The group was founded in 2002 and has worked closely with many leading Estonian composers, performing in contemporary music festivals throughout Europe.
As a result of contacting CMC for repertoire advice in late 2011, the ensemble has chosen to perform the first movement of Jane O’Leary’s 2009 work Only gestures remain… for cello and piano in an arrangement for cello and kannel, and John Buckley’s virtuosic solo flute work, Airflow. The concert also includes poetry reading by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill and Miriam Mcilfatrick-Ksenofontov alongside works by contemporary Estonian composers.
The concert takes place at the Irish Writers’ Centre, 19 Parnell Square, Dublin, on 16 February 2012 at 7.00pm.
