David Fennessy nominated for a British Composer Award
Created by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) in 2003, the British Composer Awards aim to promote the art of composition and recognise the creative talent of composers and sound artists born and living in the UK.
Irish composer Dave Fennessy, who has been based in Glasgow since 1998, has been shortlisted for his work Hauptstimme. Commissioned by the Red Note Ensemble and premiered by them with Garth Knox (viola) in November 2013, the work is concerned with ‘the notion of the individual and how he/she contributes or functions in a group setting as well as how that group can meaningfully make a collective statement,’ says Fennessy.
The awards take place at Goldsmiths’ Hall, London on 2 December. More on the awards here.
