The Final event of Concorde’s Up Close With Music series features Dave Fennessy and Matthew Whiteside
The last event in the Concorde Ensemble’s Up Close With Music series takes place on Sunday, 22 July, featuring new works by Dave Fennessy, Rhona Clarke and Matthew Whiteside. Up Close With Music is a series celebrating the ensemble’s 35 years at the forefront of Irish new music, with each concert featuring a new or previously commissioned work from a different Irish composer; the series also provided Concorde’s audience with open access to the musical process, with talks and open questions with the composers themselves.
The selected composer for the final event in the series is Dave Fennessy, with whom Concorde have worked in the past. The concert will feature a premiere of a new commissioned work, Five Hofer Photographs: five short pieces for solo cello inspired by the work of German photographer Evelyn Hofer, currently on exhibition at the Gallery of Photography. In addition, the concert will see the Irish premiere of Matthew Whiteside’s Dichroic Light for cello and electronics, the chosen work from a call for scores from student composers.
Three thirty minute concerts will take place on the 22 July at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm, at the Gallery of Photography, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar.
Listen to a short interview with David Fennessy about his work, Five Hofer Photographs, recorded on 16 July 2012.
