New student-run contemporary music ensemble Kirkos to be launched with a concert on 17th April
Kirkos is the Royal Irish Academy of Music's first and only student-led ensemble, both founded and run by students with the support of the RIAM. The ensemble's twin aims are to provide young performers with a chance to explore the wealth of contemporary music in Dublin and to provide young composers with a platform for the performance of their music. The ensemble's name is taken from the Greek word, meaning both 'circus' and 'ring'.
Kirkos will be launched with a free concert in St. Ann's Church in Dublin on the 17th, performing ten new pieces by students, teachers and alumni of the Royal Irish Academy of Music: Sebastian Adams (also the director of the ensemble), Breffni O'Byrne, Robert Coleman, Edgar Grunewald, Nori Krupp. Bill McGrath, Fergal Mulloy, Jonathan Nangle, Kevin O'Connoll and Emma O'Halloran.
