The Crash Ensemble commission new work by Daniel Figgis, to be premiered in 2012
Continuing their commitment to showcasing the best in Irish new music talent, the Crash Ensemble have announced Daniel Figgis as their latest collaborative partner. Composer Figgis is best known for his innovation in multimedia art and involvement in many styles and genres of music, with an impressive ouevre that includes site-specific installations all over the world and his lauded Skipper album. He has also curated a number of new music and art events, such as the 'poisonhats' festival of collaborations in Dublin in 2001 and New York's festival of New Irish Music 'Snakes and Ladders' in 2010.
Figgis' work for the Crash Ensemble makes use of all ten players in the ensemble, plus tape, and will be premiered in 2012. “Having long admired the Crash, it is an honour to adventure with an ensemble at the very height of their powers” -Daniel Figgis.
Speaking about the commission, Crash's Artistic Director, Donnacha Dennehy, said, "We are thrilled that the ever-inventive Daniel Figgis will be writing a piece for us. We have been fans of his since we first heard his wonderful album, Skipper, and are excited to discover what he will invent for us."
The new work for the Crash Ensemble was commissioned using funds provided by the Arts Council of Ireland.
