A new work by Piers Hellawell features in a weekend of new music concerts in London organised by the PRS for Music Foundation
The New Music Biennial is a weekend of free concerts, workshops and new music at the South Bank Centre, London from 4–6 July 2014. The weekend features over 20 commissions, including Belfast-based composer Piers Hellawell’s Sound Carvings, Strange Tryst.
The work involves jazz trio Bourne/Davis/Kane, with both Hellawell and the performers leaving behind established writing methods to learn from one another, undermining assumptions about both improvising and the notation of music. It was commissioned by Moving on Music for the PRS Foundation for Music’s New Music Biennial and premiered in March 2014.
The performance takes place at the Front Room at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at 6.00pm on 6 July, and will also be performed in Glasgow on 2 August.
