CMC hosts a conference on music and the Internet

The one-day conference, Future of Music in the Digital World 2, takes place at the National Concert Hall on 20 June 2013.

The conference, which is of interest to composers, performers and anyone with an interest in music, the arts and digital technology, will focus on some of the issues for composers and musicians when it comes to disseminating and promoting their work online, and follows on from a similar conference which CMC held in 2010.

How can the Internet and online technologies enhance and support the work of composers? How can music best fit into the online cultural space, and what can organisations and musicians do to maximise their audience using emerging technologies and trends? What are some of the innovative ways in which composers have used web technologies to develop their practice and grow their audience? These are some of the many questions that the conference hopes to address.

As well as a number of speakers and panels covering these areas, the day will also feature a practical workshop led by Andrew Dubber and Steve Lawson from New Music Strategies (newmusicstrategies.com) for composers and musicians on how to develop and refine an online strategy for their work and integrate the Internet in different ways into their current practice.

Full details including a programme and booking information will be posted on CMC’s site shortly.

The conference forms part of The Arts Council programme, Culture Connects, marking Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and is kindly supported by IMRO and the National Concert Hall.
