SoundSCAPE Annual Irish Residency – Call for Proposals

soundscapeThe Association of Irish Composers and the Contemporary Music Centre are delighted to announce the second annual Irish Artist-in-Residence with the soundSCAPE Festival in Italy. This year’s residency will be awarded to a performer who has an established track record in the commission and performance of works by Irish composers.

soundSCAPE is a contemporary music festival and summer school which takes place over two weeks each year in the beautiful town of Maccagno in the Italian Alps. The festival features daily concerts and seminars from faculty, students and guest artists. Students of the summer school receive regular one-to-one tuition in contemporary music performance and composition. Most importantly, artists from all over the world meet to exchange ideas and become part of a growing international network of composers and performers. In 2014, the festival will take place from 4 – 17 July.

The recipient of the Irish Residency will be provided with flights to Italy and 3-4 nights’ accommodation at Casa Emmaus in Maccagno in addition to a performance fee. The selected artist will be invited to curate/perform a concert of contemporary Irish music at the festival and to give a talk/workshop/masterclass on their work. They will also be expected to contribute to the lively discussions in the festival’s daily symposia.

Interested artists should e-mail associationofirishcomposers@gmail.com with their CV and proposals for a one-hour concert of contemporary Irish music, and a related one-hour seminar/masterclass. The concert programme should be mostly performed solo by the Artist-in-Residence, but it can include up to two small ensemble pieces drawing on the following instruments: piano, flute, guitar, percussion , cello, clarinet, voice (at least one of each is available).

Proposals featuring the premiere of a new work will be especially welcome. soundSCAPE is open to all musical aesthetics. Proposals should offer some degree of flexibility in order to accommodate any changes that may arise when the final festival line-up is confirmed (e.g. in terms of the number of pieces in the concert, or the specific percussion requirements, etc).

The deadline for proposals is 5pm, Monday, 3 March. Submissions will be assessed by a combined panel from the AIC, CMC and soundSCAPE. The selected artist will be announced in later in March.
