CMC launches its Choral Catalogue for Mixed Voice Repertoire at the City of Derry International Choral Festival
The catalogue, curated by Rhona Clarke, will be launched on 22 October at 12pm by CMC Director Evonne Ferguson at the International Choral Symposium at City of Derry International Choral Festival 2014. The symposium takes place at St. Columb's Hall, Derry.
In recent years CMC has experienced an increased engagement by choral conductors (of all forces) with its library of choral works. It is hoped that the catalogue of original choral compositions and arrangements by Irish composers will offer guidance to conductors, choral directors, teachers and singers in the search for new repertoire among the hidden gems of Irish Choral music. This catalogue features a selection of works chosen by Rhona Clarke from CMC’s collection of works for Mixed Choir.
As part of the session, Norwegian conductor Ragnar Rasmussen will lead Chamber Choir Utopia & Reality performing works from Choirland: An Anthology of Irish Choral Music - Frank Corcoran's Caoine and Ben Hanlons' Molaimis go léir an tAon-Mhac Críost.
CMC Director Evonne Ferguson will also host a short interview with local composer Seán Doherty, whose work Et clamabant features in the catalogue for mixed voice repertoire. The composer has written a number of choral works in recent years and will discuss how this interest developed from his early experiences of choral singing in the city.
The catalogue will be available at the event and will also be available in pdf format on the CMC's website following the launch.
