The 2012 Dublin Dance Festival features music by Benedict Schlepper-Connolly
The Dublin Dance Festival is almost as much a celebration of music as it is movement. A number of events at the festival will feature new music from Ireland and Europe, taking place 11th – 26th May in venues across the city, including the Project Arts Centre and the Abbey Theatre.
A midweek triple bill of experimental contemporary dance features Liv O’Donoghue’s Prompted Breathless, a work that intwines the memories of its four dancers, exploring the visceral and physical reactions to those memories. This is an extract of a larger work for which composer Benedict Schlepper-Connolly wrote the music, an electroacoustic score that interweaves melody and texture just as the dance interweaves memories and feelings.
Also on the festival’s bill is a selection of European and Irish artists, including the world premiere of Body and Forgetting by the Liz Roche Company staged alongside The Wake by Sarah Dowling, which features two traditional Irish musicians sharing the stage with dancers. The Burning House: An Elegy to Patrick Pearse also features live traditional musicians, with music by Martin Hayes, performed by Iarla O’Lionaird, Dennis Cahill and Caoimhín Ó’Raghallaigh.
