Winners of the 2011 West Cork Chamber Music Festival Composition Competition
West Cork Music in partnership with the Contemporary Music Centre would like to announce the winners of the 2011 West Cork Chamber Music Festival Composition Competition which is kindly supported by IMRO.
Young composers Conal Ryan from Cork, Sebastian Adams from Dublin and Eduard Zatriqi from Belfast won this year's competition.
There was a large number of entries for this year's competition. Composers were invited to submit works for string quartet (violin, violin, viola, cello) of between 5-8 minutes duration for workshopping and performance at the 2011 West Cork Chamber Music Festival. The winning composers each received a prize of €500 and will be asked to attend a workshop at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival on Sunday 26 June where their pieces will be performed by a group on the Festival’s masterclass programme. The performance will be followed by an informal public workshop between composer and performers led by Festival Composer-in-Residence, Brett Dean. The premieres will take place during the Festival in the Town Concert Series on 29 and 30 June and 1 July.
