CMC's OurTunes takes place on 16 April

The Contemporary Music Centre presents a boutique music event for 5 – 10 year olds entitled OurTunes, on 16 April 2016, in the Centre’s building in Fishamble Street, as part of MusicTown Music Festival.

 

OurTunes – Immerse Yourself in Sound is curated by cellist Adrian Mantu, Galway Music Residency/RTÉ Contempo Quartet. The event is repeated three times across the day at 10am – 12pm; 1pm – 3pm and 4pm – 6pm.  Each event programme consists of 6 performances in 6 different locations in the building. The overall theme is water and each performance connects with the music of George Frederic Handel. The Contemporary Music Centre, located at no. 19 Fishamble Street, is beside the site of the first performance of Handel’s Messiah, as well as nearby to the River Liffey.

 

Children can follow Handel’s Water Music from one room to another especially re-arranged in 6 different versions. Handel’s Water Music will be performed alongside 21st century Irish and International contemporary music. Discover and be intrigued by the electric cellist, the 10 strings duo, the jazzy clarinetist, video performance and the skilled percussionist performing with water, amongst other performers.

 

Featuring renowned artists from the Galway Music Residency/ RTÉ Contempo Quartet, winners of Feis Ceoil and Free Mason Young Musician of the Year Competitions, as well as young rising stars from the RIAM, DIT, and Maynooth University.

 

The Contemporary Music Centre’s participation in MusicTown aims to encourage newcomers and enthusiasts alike to engage with the music of Irish composers and to open up the world of contemporary music to young listeners.  

 

MusicTown takes place in various venues across Dublin from 6 – 17 April 2016 inclusive. Organised by Dublin City Council the festival showcases music of all genres across the two weeks. More details at www.musictown.ie
