The West Cork Chamber Music Festival takes place from 28 June to 16 July and features a number of events involving Irish composers and their music.

The opening concert on 28 June includes the premiere of John Kinsella’s fifth string quartet performed by the Vanbrugh Quartet, while a solo concert on 4 July by Dutch basist Niek de Groot features another work by John Kinsella, 15 April 1912.

The winning works from the West Cork Chamber Music Festival/Cork County Council Young Composer Bursary Scheme 2013 will be premiered during the first week of the festival and will also be presented at the festival’s Young Composers Forum, directed by Ian Wilson, on 29 June. The bursary was awarded to Seán Dohery, Sofa Carlile, Timothy Cape, and Patrick Egan and is a partnership between the Arts Council, Cork County Council, the Contemporary Music Centre, the Austrian Music Information Centre and CIT School of Music.

CMC also presents the Art of Sound multimedia exhibition in Bantry Library, Bridge Street for the duration of the festival. Admission is free and further information on the exhibition can is available from the library, 027–50460.
