The Women and Music in Ireland Conference 2012 talks place on 15 September

The conference, in association with the Society for Musicology in Ireland and NUI Maynooth, takes place at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and includes a number of papers, performances and discussions related to women and music in Ireland.

A session on contemporary music chaired by composer Rhona Clarke includes contributions from Gráinne Mulvey and Barbara Dignam on the relationship between the composer and musicologist.

The music of Irish composer Ina Boyle features prominently in a session on women in music in the Twentieth Century, with a presentation from music scholar Ita Beausang on three of her works, and a lecture recital from singer Aylish Kerrigan on her songs alongside the songs of Rhona Coghill.

The Contemporary Music Centre will chair a composer round table discussion and will also participate in a session with representatives from DIT and RIAM on musical sources and resources on women and music.

The day concludes at 6:00pm with an all-female programme of Irish composers’ works performed by Concorde members Paul Roe (clarinet) and Martin Johnson (cello). The programme will include works byElaine Agnew, Rhona Clarke, Amanda Feery, Deirdre McKay, Ailís Ní Riaín, Jane O’Leary, and Judith Ring.
