Raymond Deane to give one of the keynote speeches at the Music in the 21st Century Conference

Music in the 21st Century is a major international conference organised by the Music Composition Centre at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). The conference, which takes place from 5–7 March 2014 at TCD, offers a forum to discuss the aesthetic, technical, practical and economic issues affecting composers of different musical genres today.

The conference will feature keynote speeches from composers Sir Harrison Birtwistle and Irish composer Raymond Deane. Deane’s keynote, entitled ‘Ruins and Tasteless Leftovers’, takes place on 6 March at 2.30pm at the Neill/Hoey Theatre, TCD. Harrison Birtwistle’s keynote discussion is on 7 March at 2.30 at the Kevin Barry Room, National Concert Hall as part of the New Music Dublin festival, where the composer will be in conversation with Evangelia Rigaki (Director of Music Composition Centre, TCD).

The programme for the conference features a wide range of papers and talks from musicologists, composers and performers and includes, among others, papers by Irish composers and performers Peter Moran, Fergal Dowling, Piers Hellawell, Mary Dullea, Roger Doyle, and Ryan Molloy.
