A Gala Concert takes place at the NCH on 9 March celebrating the centenary of American composer Samuel Barber and his connections with Ireland

The concert, Samuel Barber: Echoes of Ireland, which takes place at the National Concert Hall on  Tuesday 9 March at 8.00pm is part of a series of events organised by Nóta, an independent music promotion company based in Dublin. Details of all events are on the Nóta web site. All proceeds go to Barnardos, Ireland’s leading childrens’ charity. The events are:

  • Monday 8th March:  Voice masterclass on ‘American Song’ with American soprano Roberta Alexander – RIAM, Westland row 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. Open to the public, free of charge.
  • Tuesday 9th March: 6.30 p.m.  Audiovisual talk by Dr. Barbara B. Heyman, biographer of Barber:  'Samuel Barber’s Vocal Gift and His Connections with Ireland', Carolan Room, NCH Open to the public, free of charge.
  • Tuesday 9th March:  8.00 p.m.   ‘Samuel Barber: Echoes of Ireland’:  Gala Centenary Concert… Dover Beach, String Quartet op.11, The Hermit Songs – Roberta Alexander,  Brian Mulligan, RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet, Lilia Boyadjieva.  NCH.
  • Wed. 10th March 1.00 p.m.  Public Lecture by Dr. Barbara B. Heyman, biographer of Barber: 'The Musicologist as Detective: Serendipitous Discoveries'. Royal Irish Academy of Music, Westland Row
  • Friday 12th March 12.00 noon: Audiovisual talk by Dr. Barbara B. Heyman, biographer of Barber:  'Samuel Barber and his works for the piano, Carolan Room, NCH Open to the public, free of charge.
  • Friday 12th March 1.05 p.m.: ‘Samuel Barber: The Piano Works’. Lunchtime recital by Lilia Boyadjieva, John Field Room, NCH.
