CMC's Christmas Event will take place on 10 December 2013
The event, entitled Snowflakes: A Carol for every Year, takes place in CMC from 6.00–7.30pm and features a selection of Christmas Carols composed over the past 20 years by Eibhlis Farrell.
Eibhlis Farrell, who celebrated her 60th birthday earlier this year, has composed a Christmas Carol each year since 1990. She explains the background to the collection:
Every Christmas I write a carol for family and friends as my annual Christmas card. Spanning many years I look on these as an expression of the intensity of simplicity, in the same way that each snowflake no matter how small has its own unique pattern and design. The texts can be Irish, Latin or English; some are choral, others for solo voice, some with voice and instrument, but all sharing the concept of taking the smallest of musical ideas and creating a thoughtful and concentrated miniature reflecting the spirit of Christmas.
The performance will include a number of solo songs from the collection as well as several choral works, performed by Chorus Angelorum, a group of Dublin-based music students, with conductor Lynsey Callaghan. A Masters performance student in conducting at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Lynsey is also conductor in training for the Association of Irish Choirs and the RTE Performing Groups.
The event is open to all and will also include seasonal refreshments.
